SUMMARY:Kingston Chapter: Louise Adams
DESCRIPTION:The Kingston Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild welcomes you to our\n2024-2025 Coffeehouse Series\non Saturday\, March 1\, 2025\nat Stepping Stone\, 320 Sawkill Rd.\, Kingston.\n\nOur featured performer is Louise Adams.\n  \nLouise Adams is a singer/ songwriter from Plymouth\, Massachusetts. Playing guitar and singing has been a part of her since a young age.  After graduating college\, one of the best parts of living in NYC was attending the Guitar Study Center after work in midtown Manhattan. Work\, and family then took center stage but she eventually returned to playing and singing in local NJ bands before moving to Massachusetts in 2017.\nSongwriting also came later in life\, after a suggestion from a booking agent that she write a few songs to appear at a local venue. She released her first album\, Come Dance with me in 2023 with Whole Music Records. The song\, Come Dance with Me won a Silver Medal in the Global Music awards\, and the following year\, both songs\, “Wish You Had” and “All the Time In the World” also received Silvers in the Global Music Awards.\nShe loves all kinds of music\, and is grateful for her kids to keep introducing her to current artists. However\, her inspirations keep bringing her back to acoustic artists such as Cosy Sheridan\, Patty Griffin\, Jeff Daniels\, and Cheryl Wheeler.\nWhen not working on original music\, Louise plays throughout the south shore of Massachusetts  in the band\, Tupelo Honey.\, and also with Jim Schulze as the Louise Adams Acoustic Duo.\n\n\nThe Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills has been sold to Stepping Stone\, a multimedia production company\, event space and creative wellness center. We will continue to perform at 320 Sawkill Road. SUMMARY:Poughkeepsie Chapter: Tim Robinson
DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild\nwill host our monthly coffeehouse on\nSaturday\, March 15\, 2025\nat the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Poughkeepsie\, N.Y.\nThis month we are proud to be featuring Tim Robinson.\n  \nTim Robinson is a songwriter from Croton on Hudson\, NY. He got his start among the songwriters of the “Fast Folk” era in NYC when he met Jack Hardy in the early 1990’s. Through Jack\, he fell in with Suzanne Vega\, Frank Tedesso\, Richard Julian\, Bob Hillman\, and others. It was a cauldron of incredible\, vital songwriting. Tim has four full albums to his credit since those days. His first Recording\, “Money in the Woods” was produced with the help of Suzanne Vega\, who sings backing vocals on several songs and refers to Tim as one of her favorite working songwriters. That recording was nominated for the New Pantheon award and celebrated with 4 stars by Amanda Petrusich\, now famous for her role as staff music writer at The New Yorker magazine.\nCurrently\, Tim is still writing and recording music and looks to release an album of new songs\, “The Midnight Bird”\, as soon as possible. Last year (after taking a pass on songwriting competitions for the past twenty years) Tim was accepted as a New Folk finalist at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. That said\, the dates of the festival conflicted with his eldest son’s college graduation\, so… he had to say\, thank you\, but\, no. A man needs priorities. It’s funny to be “New” at age 61.\nTim is now looking to get back out there and have his hundreds unique of songs heard again by new ears. He thanks you all for coming out to listen and getting that process started.\n  \n\nOPEN MIC\n \nOpen mic performances will be available for all.\nSignup begins at 6:30 and open mic begins at 7:00.\nThe featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:00. \nCost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors). \nQuestions? Contact the President of the Poughkeepsie Chapter\, John Hamilton\, at birdman566@aol.com.

SUMMARY:Open Mic via Zoom: Marylyn Coffey
DESCRIPTION:Marylyn Coffey came of age in the Folk era of the 1960s\, performing with friends in cafés and coffee houses in and around Boston\, but never thought of taking herself seriously in that milieu. Now in her Golden Years\, as a former hippie\, graphic artist\, art publicist and university art department manager\, she is doing all the things she didn’t have time for until now. Always a poet and writer\, she started writing songs in 2020. \nIn the 1980s Marylyn moved to Huntsville\, Alabama to finish college. Singing and playing harmonica in a local Americana cover band in the 1990s was fun\, a new thing for Huntsville at the time. Marylyn first started solo performing on open mics online during COVID\, while writing songs at a rapid clip. She switched to ukulele from guitar\, which may have been a mistake\, but it’s too late now! The four strings of a ukulele lend themselves to the strange chord progressions that Marylyn comes up with. \nMarylyn performs at open mics in town and occasionally at farmers’ markets or during studio tour nights at the “alternative” arts center. In 2022 she released an all-originals CD called Can’t Feel a Thing\, and is presently working on another one. She’s also written 20 plot-related songs for a musical called Muddleville\, based on a short novel she “accidentally” wrote last year. How that project will be shared remains to be seen. \nContact: giraffe@hiwaay.net \n\n \n\nConnect via Zoom:\nTopic: HVFG 4th Saturday Open Mic via Zoom \n  \nFor the Zoom link\, please signup for our email newsletters\, or contact Ethan Campbell at ethan.1247@gmail.com. \n\n  \nOPEN MIC\nMusic starts at 7:00\, but if you arrive at 6:30 you can spend some time catching up with friends\, helping each other sound check\, and just generally enjoying the mellow Folk Guild vibe. \nEthan Campbell will be the Zoom maestro\, so if you’re a musician and you’re planning to perform\, let Ethan know as soon as you come in from the Waiting Room.  He’ll get you into the next available slot.  Everybody gets two songs or eight (8) minutes\, whichever comes first.
