DESCRIPTION:The Kingston Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild welcomes you to our\n2023-2024 Coffeehouse Series\non Saturday\, November 4\, 2023\nat the Unitarian Fellowship\, 320 Sawkill Rd.\, Kingston.\nThis Is Gordon Lightfoot Night.\n\n  \nThe open mic part of the evening will be as usual. In addition\, our featured performance will consist of performances by our HVFG tribe performing Gordon Lightfoot songs. Please let me know if you are interested in participating. So far we have: \n“Ode To Big Blue” by David Howell\, parody of “Edmund Fitzgerald” by Don & Maureen Black\, “That’s What You Get For Lovin Me” and “Saturday Clothes” by James Leo\, “Early Morning Rain” by Andy Shapiro + Pat Lamanna \nWe have room for another song or two. If we don’t get another performer I would like to do “Race Among The Ruins” as a collaboration with interested performers. I could play guitar\, bass\, mandolin\, or ukelele and sing. I will provide song sheets with chords for anyone who is interested in this. I’m looking forward to a fun night! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOPEN MIC\n \nOpen mic performances will be available for all.\nSignup begins at 7pm and open mic begins at 7:30pm.\nThe featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:30. \nCost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors) \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring James Leo.\n~~~~~\n\nJames Leo\, a native of Bensonhurst\, Brooklyn\, experienced a life-changing moment in 1970 when he encountered the music of Sam “Lightin” Hopkins. Inspired by the mastery and emotive power of Hopkins’ blues\, James decided to learn to play the guitar\, attempting to echo the unique sounds and feelings produced by the acclaimed bluesman.As he embarked on his musical journey\, James expanded his influences to include Robert Johnson and Django Reinhardt\, the latter known for his contributions to gypsy jazz. Further enhancing his skills\, he had the opportunity to study under the guidance of the late Danny Kalb and Frank Christian\, both prominent figures in the Greenwich Village music scene. DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild\nwill host our monthly coffeehouse on\nSaturday\, November 18\, 2023\nat the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Poughkeepsie\, N.Y.\nThis month we are proud to be featuring Janie March.\n\nJanie has played guitar since she was in the 8th grade\, and wrote her first basic song at the age of 14. She has attended SummerSongs and Cedar Run songwriting camps\, as well as several singer/ songwriter workshops. Her latest CD release is called\,  “I Love to See You Smile\,” a collection of family-oriented educational stories and songs that span the seasons. \nAn  advocate for special education\, Janie recorded an Autism awareness EP\, “In His Eyes / Living with Autism\,”. All the proceeds from both recordings are donated to the Anderson Center for Autism\, the organization that has helped her son since a young teen. \nJanie is working on a new album called Chapters of Life. \n\nOPEN MIC\n \nOpen mic performances will be available for all.\nSignup begins at 7 and open mic begins at 7:30.\nThe featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:30. \nCost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors) \nQuestions?
