DESCRIPTION:The Kingston Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild welcomes you to our\n2023-2024 Coffeehouse Series\non Saturday\, Sept 2\, 2023\nat the Unitarian Fellowship\, 320 Sawkill Rd.\, Kingston.\n\nOur featured performer is Storm King Skyline.\n\n  \nKevin & Carol Becker\, Rich Keyes\, Ken & Linda Sheehan  \nStart with deep roots in traditional folk music\, add musical versatility\, mix in both historical and contemporary themes\, all seasoned with a healthy dose of good-natured humor\, then enjoy a performance by Storm King Skyline. \nA newly formed musical group\, Storm King Skyline has developed a unique sound that combines breathtaking vocals\, instrumental dexterity\, and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other’s talents.  That sound starts with Kevin’s intricate finger picked guitar\, augmented by his impeccable harmonica playing.  Carol’s soaring vocals – clear\, bright\, and pure\, stand out when singing solo and form compelling harmonies with Kevin and Ken’s baritone voices.  Ken adds the skillful touch of a virtuoso on guitar and Linda adds some light percussion.  The entire sound is anchored by Rich’s solid rhythms on upright bass and his driving bluegrass-influenced banjo.  They feature other instruments as well\, notably mountain dulcimer\, recorder\, bodhran\, and Appalachian limber horse.  Their repertoire ranges from historical ballads to songs of social significance and from traditional folk songs to the original songs of the band members.  Storm King Skyline has an easy manner and relaxed stage presence which encourages audience participation and contributes to their entertaining performances. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOPEN MIC\n \nOpen mic performances will be available for all.\nSignup begins at 7pm and open mic begins at 7:30pm.\nThe featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:30. \nCost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors) \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild\nwill host our monthly coffeehouse on\nSaturday\, September 16\, 2023\nat the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Poughkeepsie\, N.Y.\nThis month we are proud to be featuring Mary Pazienza.\n\n\nMary Pazienza started playing guitar after her retirement.  A lot has happened for Mary creatively and musically during this time. She started writing songs and has published two volumes of Lyric Poems\, Livin’ the Dream and Watercolors.   Her songs are introspective\, covering topics such as relationships\, mental health\, social justice and food.   The creative process has enhanced Mary’s life in so many ways\,  including rediscovering the joy of singing.   Early musical influences include Fleetwood Mac\, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.\n\nMary has been playing originals and covers at open mics including the Hudson Valley Folk Guild.  Most recently\, Mary played at the Poughkeepsie Porchfest.  She attended SummerSongs songwriter’s retreat this year for the first time.\n\nOPEN MIC\n \nOpen mic performances will be available for all.\nSignup begins at 7 and open mic begins at 7:30.\nThe featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:30. \nCost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors) \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:This month the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased and proud to present as our featured performer Lisa Dudley.  Lisa is blessed with a heart for music\, and she is well known to Folk Guild members. Lisa joined us many years ago\, after moving from Tennessee to marry the “Magnificent Daniel Dudley”\, as she likes to refer to him.\n\nLisa always says\, “The Folk Guild is a safe space to try out new material” and she has promised to debut a new song for us this month.  Lisa has recorded 5 CDs over the course of her music career\, and she believes in healing wounded hearts\, one song at a time.
