SUMMARY:Twilight Music in the Park: Piedmont Blūz (Ben and Valerie Turner)
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nThe Piedmont Blūz Acoustic Duo\, comprised of Valerie and Benedict Turner\, are ambassadors of Country Blues music and the Piedmont style of fingerpicking. Their mission is to help bring awareness to this unique aspect of African-American culture\, and to the contributions of early blues artists\, through performing and teaching. \n \nThey have been entertaining audiences both domestically and abroad and are much loved wherever they go. As 2018 inductees into the New York Blues Hall of Fame\, this husband-and-wife duo feel that “there are stories to tell\, people to remember\, and things that must be said” so\, in addition to tickling your ears with delightful music\, they weave a bit of history into the presentation of each song. \n \nA Piedmont Blūz concert isn’t just music – it’s an experience as they transport you back to the 1920s and 1930s\, the hey-day of acoustic Country Blues music. In addition to performing songs from that time-frame\, they introduce each piece with an interesting anecdote about either the composer\, the time period\, or the song itself. \n  \n \n\nThe Hudson Valley Folk Guild has been approached by the New York State Office of Parks to provide music at the Walkway Over the Hudson.\nPerformances will be on Thursday evenings in June\, from 6-7pm.\nLocation: On the Highland side of the Walkway Over the Hudson\, near the Visitor Center. \nNYS Office of Parks will provide the performance area and HVFG will supply the music. \nThe weekly performances are projected to start on each Thursday\, 6-7pm\, from June 2 through September 1\, 2022. \nNYS Office of Parks will have sole discretion to cancel performances for any reason and there will be no Rain Dates.\n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:These Three Bums – Dick Vincent\, Matt Bowe\, and Bruce Hildenbrand – usually perform as an acoustic trio. Their repertoire is an expansive interpretation of “Americana”; mostly covers of folk\, blues\, and even ragtime and swing with a few original songs salted in. The sound may remind you of David Bromberg\, Garcia/Grisman\, or even un-plugged Clapton; sometimes pretty\, sometimes a little raunchy. \nThey try not to take themselves too seriously\, and encourage the audience to join the fun! \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n\nCome enjoy free live music from the Hudson Valley Folk Guild at the Walkway Over the Hudson this summer!  \nNew York State Office of Parks\, Recreation and Historic Preservation announces a free music series\, “ Twilight Music in the Parks\,” featuring local folk music from Hudson Valley Folk Guild at the Walkway Over the Hudson. Performances are every Thursday night from 6pm – 7pm at the Walkway Ulster Visitor Center (Highland) now through September 1. \nConcerts are free and open to the public.\nFeel free to bring a lawn chair and stay awhile.\nConcerts are weather permitting. DESCRIPTION:The Hudson Valley acoustic group Betty and the Baby Boomers (Betty Boomer\, Jean Valla McAvoy\, Paul Rubeo\, Robert Bard\, and Steve Stanne) have been recognized regionally – they “sing and play old-school folk like it was brand spanking new” (Kingston’s Daily Freeman); nationally – “a refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music” (Sing Out!); and internationally\, with many bookings over the years for Clifden Arts Week\, a well-known festival in Ireland. \nAs Clearwater staff and board members\, the Boomers worked with Pete Seeger\, who regularly performed one of McAvoy’s original songs\, “Down by the River\,” included on his Grammy-winning album Tomorrow’s Children with the Rivertown Kids. SUMMARY:Twilight Music in the Park: Grampa Joe’s Washboard Band
DESCRIPTION:Grampa Joe’s Washboard Band was formed in 2017. The band is made up of Grampa Joe Cardella on vocals and washboard\, Vince Sauter on vocals and stand-up fretless bass\, and Wayne Chadwell on vocals and 6-string high-strung banjo. All three members have played in bands and as individuals since they were teenagers and all three play other instruments and have other musical interests as well. \nThe style of music is difficult to describe so they simply call it “New Orleans style jazz\, blues\, string band\, jug band\, washboard band music”. The music choices are intended to offer something interestingly different from mainstream and are intended to offer surprises and humor. \n  \n  \n\n\n\n  \n  \n \n\nCome enjoy free live music from the Hudson Valley Folk Guild at the Walkway Over the Hudson this summer! SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Jerry Mitnick
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Jerry Mitnick.\n\nJerry Mitnick\, aka Minique Flambeau\n\n\nI’ve been a performing and recording musician\, singer/songwriter for over 50 years. (Yikes!) ..born in NYC\, and now since ’88\, home in the Hudson Valley. Toured the world with various bands\, ….bass and vocals with:  ’71-87 with Bev Grant & The Human Condition\,  NYC with The Lonely Rangers\, The Meteors\, Jo Marshal Band\, recorded and toured Norway as minique flambeau for a year with The Rodney C. Riley Band (’79-80)\,  theater and musicals\, The Natl Lampoon Show’s  “That’s Not Funny\, That’s Sick” natl tour\,…then Wdstk since ’88 to the present (Hang Time\, the Phantoms\, etc\, …now  been performing acoustically locally and recording original music conveniently comfortable in home studio. \nSo I’d never have to work for a music-club owner ever again\, I became one in ’88\, owning\, operating and performing at local music venues in Woodstock NY from ’88-2001\, (Tinker St. Cafe\, and the Joyous Lake\, and have recently published a memoir of the years spent at Tinker st Cafe titled “The Music in the Walls\, stories and anecdotes from TSC ’88-’98 “\, available at/in most book stores and venues in the Hudson valley. \nMy mission in music is to have it set a mood to feel like we’re all here together…just please\, don’t chew food when we’re singin’…. \n  \nReview from show at the 2 Moon Cafe\, Bklyn\, ny\, backabit: \nThis past fri. eve. I had the pleasure of experiencing Jerry Mitnick (aka Minique Flambeau) perform an accoustic gig at the 2 Moon Cafe in Park Slope. He captivated me and the crowd with his humor\, story telling\, and timelessly entertaining selection of music and lyrics\,  at times encouraging us to join in and sing along.  Given the way he performed I believe his Folk-Bluesy voice has many years left in the old fart. His voice improves like a transcendent bottle of wine. He truly loves his craft. I hope this review inspires many of us to see him perform sometime soon.  Lots of love and creativity is inspired by his expression of music . Thanks Jerry.” –  Sam Bonsignore\, Park Slope Gaze-att \n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ \n\n\n\n\nOpen mic performances will be available to all. SUMMARY:Lifelong Learning Institute at Vassar College Presents "Folk Songs of the Hudson Valley" featuring Storm King Skyline
DESCRIPTION:The Hudson Valley Folk Guild\, \nin partnership with the\nLifelong Learning Institute at Vassar College\, \npresents \n“Folk Songs of the Hudson Valley”\nfeaturing Storm King Skyline.\n  \nThis concert\, Friday\, October 7\, 2022\, 5 p.m.\, Blodgett Auditorium on the Vassar College campus\, includes songs that tell the history\, celebrate the people\, and reflect the grandeur of the Hudson Valley. There is no admission charge. \nA newly formed musical group\, Storm King Skyline (Kevin & Carol Becker\, Rich Keyes\, Ken Sheehan\, Linda Sheehan) has developed a unique sound that combines breathtaking vocals\, instrumental dexterity\, and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other’s talents. That sound starts with Kevin’s intricate finger picked guitar\, augmented by his impeccable harmonica playing. Carol’s soaring vocals – clear\, bright\, and pure\, stand out when singing solo and form compelling harmonies with Kevin and Ken’s baritone voices. Ken adds the skillful touch of a virtuoso on guitar and the sound is all anchored by Rich’s solid rhythms on upright bass and his driving bluegrass-influenced banjo. They feature other instruments as well\, notably mountain dulcimer\, recorder\, bodhran\, and Appalachian limber horse. Their repertoire ranges from historical ballads to songs of social significance and from traditional folk songs to the original songs of the band members. Storm King Skyline has an easy manner and relaxed stage presence which encourages audience participation and contributes to their entertaining performances. \nMask and proof of vaccination required. \nFor more information on the Lifelong Learning Institute at Vassar College\, including a map of the Vassar College campus\, go to https://pages.vassar.edu/lifelonglearning/. \n  \nDirections\nYou can locate Blodgett Hall by entering the Vassar Campus at the North Gate (at approximately 54 Collegeview Ave.\, Poughkeepsie\, N.Y.).
