SUMMARY:Kingston Chapter: Andy Shapiro
DESCRIPTION:Andy Shapiro grew up on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx in the 1950s\, dreaming the dreams that came from listening to his sister’s Four Seasons and Beach Boys records. \nAndy fell in love with the guitar as a nine-year-old listening to his mother strum folk songs\, and picked up the electric guitar in the 60’s. Inspired by the Beatles and the Stones\, and then Cream and Jimi Hendrix\, he left college to become a full-time musician\, and toured New England in a Country Rock band playing Emmy Lou\, Linda Ronstadt\, Hank\, Johnny\, Merle and the rest of the gang. Andy was part of the Boston music scene in the 70’s and 80’s in the locally renowned band “The Catch\,” and then took time off to raise a family. \nAndy picked up the guitar again in the new millennium\, this time to become a singer-songwriter. He released his first CD “Find My Way Home” in May 2018\, and his song “Through The Looking Glass”\, from that album\, won Honorable Mention at the 2019 Posi Music Festival.

She appears as a guest vocalist on numerous recordings by artists in the Hudson Valley\, where she now lives. \nJen works with the non-profit organization SageArts\, which pairs songwriters with elders in the community to create songs which reflect the lives of each elder.  She is a member of ReBurt\, an 8-piece band specializing in creative reworkings of Burt Bacharach songs. She is currently working on another recording of original songs.  https://jenclappmusic.com \nOpen Mic: \nOpen mic performances will be available to all. SUMMARY:Kingston Chapter: Take Out Music
DESCRIPTION:Take Out Music is a group of four voices and more than 13 instruments. Despite their unassuming appearance\, Take Out Music offers unique arrangements and an eclectic repertoire\, everything from Elizabeth Cotten through Dylan to Motown. The name was inspired by their tradition of beginning each practice with a meal\, and the enjoyment of one another’s company. \nKirk Lamb plays guitar\, bass\, and sings. He enjoys playing bass\, and came to it through the traditional route: the band needed a bass player and it looked like no one else was going to do it. \nCatherine Cattabiani\, finding her piano too unwieldy to bring to rehearsals\, sings\, and plays the concertina and suitcase drum. \nJerelynn Mason enjoys all types of music\, so naturally she took up the ukulele. \nMary Evans studied piano and cello\, but when she saw a dulcimer being played at a country fair\, she knew she had found her instrument. Mary especially enjoys dulcimer arrangements of fiddle tunes\, and 17th Century dance tunes. \nContact:  jerelynnmason@yahoo.com \n \n  \n\nConnect via Zoom:\nTopic: Poughkeepsie HVFG Open Mic \n  \nFor the Zoom link\, please signup for our email newsletters\, or contact the President of the Kingston chapter: Ethan Campbell:  HVFGKingston@hudsonvalleyfolkguild.org. \n\n  \nOPEN MIC\nMusic starts at 7:30\, but if you arrive at 7:00 you can spend some time catching up with friends\, helping each other sound check\, and just generally enjoying the mellow Folk Guild vibe. \nAndy Shapiro will be the Zoom maestro\, so if you’re a musician and you’re planning to perform\, let Andy know as soon as you come in from the Waiting Room.  He’ll get you into the next available slot.  Everybody gets two songs or eight (8) minutes\, whichever comes first. \n  \n\nDonations may be made through the HVFG Paypal account. \n

SUMMARY:Kingston Chapter: Carole White
DESCRIPTION:Carole White plays rhythmically driven guitar and sings uplifting\, empowering songs with a message to move your body\, use your voice\, use your power\, and use your life for something good. \nBorn and raised in the Catskills of Woodstock Ny\, Carole’s music grows out of the lush\, peaceful beauty of those mountains. The ever present surge upwards towards hope\, perseverance\, and freedom is colored by Woodstock folk and rock roots\, civil rights music\, swing\, blues\, and textured by percussive language learned at the hands of a drum. Her rich\, resonant voice is sometimes clear and clean\, sometimes peppered with rust and gusto\, sometimes telling stories of life on the road as a gypsy stone dealer\, sometimes inviting you to get up and dance\, but always aiming to make you feel better than before you heard her music. \nHer Debut CD “Inside Out” was released in July of 2019. Here is what people are saying :\n“This is the best CD I have heard in a long time” Roger Paris “I am in love with your music” Lettie Davis \nwww.CaroleWhiteMusic.com \n\n\n\n\n  \n\nConnect via Zoom:\nTopic: Poughkeepsie HVFG Open Mic \n  \nFor the Zoom link\, please signup for our email newsletters\, or contact the President of the Kingston chapter: Ethan Campbell:  HVFGKingston@hudsonvalleyfolkguild.org. \n

SUMMARY:Twilight Music in the Park: Piedmont Blūz (Ben and Valerie Turner)
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nThe Piedmont Blūz Acoustic Duo\, comprised of Valerie and Benedict Turner\, are ambassadors of Country Blues music and the Piedmont style of fingerpicking. Their mission is to help bring awareness to this unique aspect of African-American culture\, and to the contributions of early blues artists\, through performing and teaching. \n \nThey have been entertaining audiences both domestically and abroad and are much loved wherever they go. As 2018 inductees into the New York Blues Hall of Fame\, this husband-and-wife duo feel that “there are stories to tell\, people to remember\, and things that must be said” so\, in addition to tickling your ears with delightful music\, they weave a bit of history into the presentation of each song. \n \nA Piedmont Blūz concert isn’t just music – it’s an experience as they transport you back to the 1920s and 1930s\, the hey-day of acoustic Country Blues music. In addition to performing songs from that time-frame\, they introduce each piece with an interesting anecdote about either the composer\, the time period\, or the song itself. \n  \n \n\nThe Hudson Valley Folk Guild has been approached by the New York State Office of Parks to provide music at the Walkway Over the Hudson.\nPerformances will be on Thursday evenings in June\, from 6-7pm.\nLocation: On the Highland side of the Walkway Over the Hudson\, near the Visitor Center. \nNYS Office of Parks will provide the performance area and HVFG will supply the music. \nThe weekly performances are projected to start on each Thursday\, 6-7pm\, from June 2 through September 1\, 2022. \nNYS Office of Parks will have sole discretion to cancel performances for any reason and there will be no Rain Dates.\n\n\n\n  \n
