DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Eric Lee in our monthly Open Mic on Saturday\, January16\, 2021 at 7:30pm. \n\n\nA masterful and engaging multi-instrumentalist and songwriter\, Eric Lee combines poetic lyrics with a singular melodic sense that are strongly rooted in the folk and bluegrass traditions. For being still in his twenties\, he has achieved experience beyond his years\, drawing from years accompanying such notable artists that include Eric Andersen\, Peter Rowan\, and The Kennedy’s. As a member of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival house band\, Eric has sat in with numerous acts and artists from around the country. \n\nHaving released his self-titled EP in 2015\, Eric recently finished production of his first full-length album\, Heartache Town. Exceptional performances compliment Lee’s compelling and honest vocal delivery\, as the graceful harmonies of renowned singer Tracy Grammer and the pristine mandolin of 5-time IBMA Mandolinist of the Year Jesse Brock (The Gibson Brothers) shine over the powerful and dynamic rhythm section comprised of seasoned talents Jim Henry (electric guitar)\, Paul Kochanski (bass)\, and J.J. O’Connell (drums).\nOn stage\, Eric Lee carries himself with assurance and ease\, and tells stories both unique and relatable\, and often comical. DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring “This Is Us” in our monthly Open Mic on Saturday\, November 21\, 2020 at  7:30pm. \n“This is Us” features Carol and Kevin Becker w/ Rich Keyes & Ken Sheehan. \nStart with deep roots in traditional folk music\, add musical versatility\, mix in both historical and contemporary themes\, all seasoned with a healthy dose of good-natured humor\, then enjoy a performance by “THIS IS US”!\n\nA newly formed musical group\, THIS IS US has developed a unique sound that combines breathtaking vocals\, instrumental dexterity\, and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other’s talents.  That sound starts with Kevin’s intricate finger picked guitar\, augmented by his impeccable harmonica playing.  Carol’s soaring vocals\, clear\, bright\, and pure\, stand out when solo and form compelling harmonies with Kevin and Ken’s blending voices.  Ken adds the skillful touch of a virtuoso on guitar and it’s all anchored by Rich’s solid rhythms on upright bass and his driving bluegrass-influenced banjo.  They feature other instruments as well\, notably mountain dulcimer\, recorder\, bodhran\, Appalachian limber horse\, and various whistles. \nTheir repertoire ranges from historical ballads to songs of social significance\, from traditional folk songs to compositions by contemporary artists.  Original material and instrumentals add to the variety.  Their easy manner and relaxed stage presence encourages audience participation\, and contribute to their entertaining performances. \n\nOpen Mic: \nOpen mic performances will be available to all. SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Grandpa Joe’s Washboard Band
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Grandpa Joe’s Washboard Band.\n~~~~~\n\nGrampa Joe’s Washboard Band was formed in 2017. The band is made up of Grampa Joe Cardella on vocals and washboard\, Vince Sauter on vocals and stand-up fretless bass\, and Wayne Chadwell on vocals and 6-string high-strung banjo. \n\n\nAll three members have played in bands and as individuals since they were teenagers and all three play other instruments and have other musical interests as well.\n\nThe style of music is difficult to describe so they simply call it “New Orleans style jazz\, blues\, string band\, jug band\, washboard band music”. SUMMARY:Poughkeepsie Chapter: Dan Weber
DESCRIPTION:Dan Weber\, a former National Park Service Ranger\,  has been described as “The Classic Mid-Life Overnight Sensation.” In 2019\, he won 1st Place in the Woody Guthrie songwriting contest for ‘Ever Since Columbine’\, his deeply moving and timely song about gun violence. He is also a rare 3 time finalist in the legendary Kerrville ‘New Folk’ competition. \nHis songs have been described as “Reminiscent of early John Prine” and “Insightful and awfully funny”. Writing in diverse styles\, he plays a vintage 1965 Swedish-made classical guitar – his oldest and best friend. \nA freelance singer in NYC for fifteen years\, Dennis sang in Greenwich Village Folk clubs\, recording studios\, early music ensembles\, and choral groups. In the early ‘80’s he toured the US and Asia as one of the ‘60s swing/pop vocal group The Four Lads. He was a co-founder of Vocal Jazz\, Inc.\, a 12-voice vocal ensemble plus trio (Their album High Clouds was recorded in RCA’s Studio A). \nAfter a second career as a technical writer and instructional designer\, he moved upstate and returned to solo performing and songwriting – strictly for the love of it.
