SUMMARY:Poughkeepsie Chapter: Eric Lee
DESCRIPTION:The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Eric Lee in our monthly Open Mic on Saturday\, January16\, 2021 at 7:30pm. \n\n\nA masterful and engaging multi-instrumentalist and songwriter\, Eric Lee combines poetic lyrics with a singular melodic sense that are strongly rooted in the folk and bluegrass traditions. For being still in his twenties\, he has achieved experience beyond his years\, drawing from years accompanying such notable artists that include Eric Andersen\, Peter Rowan\, and The Kennedy’s. As a member of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival house band\, Eric has sat in with numerous acts and artists from around the country. \n\nHaving released his self-titled EP in 2015\, Eric recently finished production of his first full-length album\, Heartache Town. Exceptional performances compliment Lee’s compelling and honest vocal delivery\, as the graceful harmonies of renowned singer Tracy Grammer and the pristine mandolin of 5-time IBMA Mandolinist of the Year Jesse Brock (The Gibson Brothers) shine over the powerful and dynamic rhythm section comprised of seasoned talents Jim Henry (electric guitar)\, Paul Kochanski (bass)\, and J.J. O’Connell (drums).\nOn stage\, Eric Lee carries himself with assurance and ease\, and tells stories both unique and relatable\, and often comical. Whether solo or accompanied\, Lee’s performances set a bar of unique musicality that draws deeply from decades of study and experience\, and will continue to do so for years to come.\n\n\nOpen Mic: \nOpen mic performances will be available to all. The Zoom meeting opens at 7 for signin\, sound check\, and socializing.  The open mic begins at 7:30. \n\nConnect via Zoom:\nTopic: Poughkeepsie HVFG Open Mic\nTime: Jan. 16\, 2021 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nSee email for Zoom link.\nDon’t get our newsletters? SUMMARY:Kingston Chapter: Sloan Wainwright
DESCRIPTION:The Kingston Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild\ncontinues its 2018-2019 coffeehouse series\non Saturday\, June 1st\, 2019\,\nat the Unitarian Fellowship\, 320  Sawkill Rd.\, Kingston.\n\nOur featured performer is Sloan Wainwright.\n  \nDefying standard categorization\, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright\, consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop\, folk\, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto\, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid. \n Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright\, nephew Rufus Wainwright\, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs. “She’s folk influenced\, but the real star here is her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth\, it makes her earthy\, ominous lyrics seem all the more intense.” \nWith a solid and impressive discography of 10 original CD releases to her credit\, Sloan continues to write\, sing and perform live and has won two songwriting awards at the annual EmPower Posi Music Awards. In addition\, Sloan has written numerous musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master songwriter series and workshops. \nSloan’s open spirit and first-hand experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical classrooms of such prestigious song camps as Richard Thompson’s Frets and Refrains\, The Swannanoa Gathering\, SummerSongs\, WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW)\, Winter Acoustic Music Weekend (WAMW)\, Moab Folk Camp\, Cape Cod Songwriting Retreat and emPower Music & Arts Totally Cool Song School. \nGlen Roethel will be accompanying her for this show. \nLearn more about Sloan at https://www.sloanwainwright.com/
