SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Jim Pospisil
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Jim Pospisil on Saturday\, December 10\, 2022. \n \nJim Pospisil is a singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist from the Hudson Valley whose songs are marked by well crafted\, sometimes quirky lyrics and themes from the personal to the profound. A mix of folk\, blues\, rock and more\, his performances on guitar\, mandolin\, flute and harmonica can be soft and subtle\, or wild and energetic. He blends it all with a wry sense of humor\, his goal is to make you laugh\, cry\, or think. Sometimes all at once. He performs cover songs as well\, featuring fresh and creative arrangements. \nJim has just released his fourth album “Sleight Of Hand”\, his most varied and ambitious release to date. The songs examine the trials of love\, life and loss\, and the challenge to rise above it all. \nHe performs regularly throughout the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas\, and runs Posmic Studios\, where he records himself and other artists\, and is currently working on a new acoustic/ electric release\, “By This Time”. He performs solo\, as a sideman for other artists\, with his trio Sleight Of Hand performing originals and classic rock covers\, and traditional Irish music with the band Flash Company. He produces electronic music under the name Feral Science.. \nSadly\, Lydia Adams Davis recently had a procedure addressing vocal cord paresis which requires greater recovery time than anticipated. Her doctor strongly recommends that she not sing professionally for a while longer.  Happily\, Jim Pospisil has agreed to substiture as our featured performer on December 10th. We look forward to a lovely evening! \n\n\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen mic performances will be available to all. Cost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors).  Signup begins at 7 and open mic begins at 7:30.  The featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:30. \nThe Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern is located in the Town of New Windsor at 9 Vance Road\, Rock Tavern\, NY\, off Route 207\, 3.4 miles west of Rte 300; or take I-84 to Exit 5A\, Rte 747 south to Rte 207\, make a right and take the second left. \nWe have returned to in-person performances on the second Saturday of every month\, weather and pandemic permitting.  We also intend to stream the performances on Zoom for those unable to attend in person.  We will not be including remote performances once we go back in the building\, but you can watch at the Zoom link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83220662299?pwd=eGxNV0dNK0xUekhxaHpzZTJ3VXlSUT09 \nFor more information call Maureen Black\, President of the Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild\, at 845-464-2526. \nFor those who still wish to perform from home\, the Hudson Valley Folk Guild has created a fourth virtual chapter that will meet every fourth Saturday.  That chapter will be hosted on Zoom by Ethan Campbell.  Check the web page for that link.

SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Jerry Mitnick
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Jerry Mitnick.\n\nJerry Mitnick\, aka Minique Flambeau\n\n\nI’ve been a performing and recording musician\, singer/songwriter for over 50 years. (Yikes!) ..born in NYC\, and now since ’88\, home in the Hudson Valley. Toured the world with various bands\, ….bass and vocals with:  ’71-87 with Bev Grant & The Human Condition\,  NYC with The Lonely Rangers\, The Meteors\, Jo Marshal Band\, recorded and toured Norway as minique flambeau for a year with The Rodney C. Riley Band (’79-80)\,  theater and musicals\, The Natl Lampoon Show’s  “That’s Not Funny\, That’s Sick” natl tour\,…then Wdstk since ’88 to the present (Hang Time\, the Phantoms\, etc\, …now  been performing acoustically locally and recording original music conveniently comfortable in home studio. \nSo I’d never have to work for a music-club owner ever again\, I became one in ’88\, owning\, operating and performing at local music venues in Woodstock NY from ’88-2001\, (Tinker St. Cafe\, and the Joyous Lake\, and have recently published a memoir of the years spent at Tinker st Cafe titled “The Music in the Walls\, stories and anecdotes from TSC ’88-’98 “\, available at/in most book stores and venues in the Hudson valley. \nMy mission in music is to have it set a mood to feel like we’re all here together…just please\, don’t chew food when we’re singin’…. \n  \nReview from show at the 2 Moon Cafe\, Bklyn\, ny\, backabit: \nThis past fri. eve. I had the pleasure of experiencing Jerry Mitnick (aka Minique Flambeau) perform an accoustic gig at the 2 Moon Cafe in Park Slope. He captivated me and the crowd with his humor\, story telling\, and timelessly entertaining selection of music and lyrics\,  at times encouraging us to join in and sing along.  Given the way he performed I believe his Folk-Bluesy voice has many years left in the old fart. His voice improves like a transcendent bottle of wine. He truly loves his craft. I hope this review inspires many of us to see him perform sometime soon.  Lots of love and creativity is inspired by his expression of music . Thanks Jerry.” –  Sam Bonsignore\, Park Slope Gaze-att \n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ \n\n\n\n\nOpen mic performances will be available to all. SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Ethan Campbell
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Ethan Campbell. \nEthan Campbell\nEthan Campbell cut his musical teeth on Rock’n’Roll\, playing in bands on the NYC Punk scene in the mid-‘70s.  Having mellowed (slightly) with age\, he now performs solo acoustic\, with a diverse repertoire of mostly ’60s and ’70s Classics:  Jackson Brown\, Eagles\, The Band\, Tom Petty\, Allman Brothers\, Elvis\, Springsteen\, et al.\, along with the occasional original composition\, often in a mystical or contemplative vein.Ethan’s musical mission is to channel the energy and unique vibe of the great original recordings of the ‘60s and ‘70s.  After his performances\, listeners have been heard to mutter things like\, “He does Tom Petty better than Tom Petty!”  Ethan is too modest to agree\, but politely accepts all complements.Fans of the Golden Age of Rock will thoroughly enjoy Ethan’s renditions of songs that range from sentimental ballads to up-tempo rockers.ethan.1247@gmail.com for more info or to be added to Ethan’s email list. \nOpen Mic: \nOpen mic performances will be available to all. She appears as a guest vocalist on numerous recordings by artists in the Hudson Valley\, where she now lives. \nJen works with the non-profit organization SageArts\, which pairs songwriters with elders in the community to create songs which reflect the lives of each elder.  She is a member of ReBurt\, an 8-piece band specializing in creative reworkings of Burt Bacharach songs. SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Whispering Tree
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring The Whispering Tree. \nCalled “one of the most talented duos to take stage in NYC” by Deli Magazine\, The Whispering Tree are singer/songwriter Eleanor Kleiner and multi-instrumentalist Elie Brangbour. Together\, they craft richly immersive folk-rock brimming with evocative lyrics and a panoramic musicality.\n \nInvisible Forces\, the fourth recording by the fiercely independent twosome\, debuted at #1 on the International Folk DJ charts\, with four songs in the top 20.  The album was self-produced\, fan-funded and recorded at Elie and Eleanor’s home studio in Beacon\, NY and at Old Soul Studio in Catskill\, NY and explores a deeply personal and political landscape\, with themes of hope\, despair and social consciousness. \nThe lead single\, “Fat Cat” has antecedents in Elie’s French background and the old-time gypsy jazz tradition back in his hometown while the satirical\, anti-capitalist sentiment of the lyrics is firmly rooted in the protest songs of the folk revival. \nOther album highlights include the impressionistic “These Houses\,” a song describing the haunting beauty of abandoned places; the revelatory “Heavy\,” which with elegant grace\, connects New Orleans-style jazz with the 1960s rock and pop harmony vocal tradition; the darkly foreboding environmental ballad\, “Garden;” and the sweetly rousing protest song “Bells.” \nSince its 2007 inception\, The Whispering Tree has issued two albums and two EPs\, and toured nationally and internationally. The duo has also earned prime critical acclaim from The Big Takeover Magazine and Keyboard Magazine\, among others. Other marquee career moments include being Kerrville New Folk finalists; Philadelphia Songwriter’s Project winners; and Eleanor and Elie having the honor to lend their voices to Pete Seeger and Lorre Wyatt’s album\, A More Perfect Union. \nOpen Mic: \nOpen mic performances will be available to all. SUMMARY:Rock Tavern Chapter: Buckets of Blarney
DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Buckets of Blarney. \n \nAs with most legends\, the history of Buckets of Blarney has been lost to time.  What little we do know has been gleaned from folklore\, song and the illustrated writings of the monks of the Order of St. Brendan. \nWe do know from birth records that the Bucket brothers\, Buddy (1438)\, Billy (1439]\, Barney (1440) and Santiago (1442)  were born near the Blarney Castle in County Cork\, Ireland.  Despite extensive research\, however\, no record of death can be found for any of the brothers\, which has given rise to the legend that they are living still. \nAs the story is told\, the brothers were singers of some renown throughout Cork and Kerry.   One day\, they were called to perform for the king of the leprechauns\, King Brian.  Unfortunately for the Buckets\, they were double booked for the evening and chose not to attend the King’s event.  Understandably\, the King was irate and swore that “If they won’t play for me\, they won’t play for any one” and the brothers instantly vanished. \nThe true cruelty of the King’s curse was not known until one St. Patrick’s Day when the brothers appeared in a pub outside the Blarney Castle.  They revealed that they were sent into the mists to wander a barren land where neither whiskey nor beer could be found.  It was only after hundreds of years that the King relented slightly and allowed that once a year\, for one day\, the brothers would be permitted to return to the real world to drink and sing.  When the day ended\, they would be banished once again. \nIn recent years\, for reasons unknown\, the Buckets have mysteriously appeared at Captain Jake’s in Newburgh\, NY where they sing and try to make up for 364 days without whiskey. \n\n\n\n\nOpen Mic: \nOpen mic performances will be available to all. The Zoom meeting opens at 7 for signin\, sound check\, and socializing.  The open mic begins at 7:30. \nIf you wish to perform\, please add your name and email to the link below.
