SUMMARY:Open Mic via Zoom: Marylyn Coffey
DESCRIPTION:Marylyn Coffey came of age in the Folk era of the 1960s\, performing with friends in cafés and coffee houses in and around Boston\, but never thought of taking herself seriously in that milieu. Now in her Golden Years\, as a former hippie\, graphic artist\, art publicist and university art department manager\, she is doing all the things she didn’t have time for until now. Always a poet and writer\, she started writing songs in 2020. \nIn the 1980s Marylyn moved to Huntsville\, Alabama to finish college. Singing and playing harmonica in a local Americana cover band in the 1990s was fun\, a new thing for Huntsville at the time. Marylyn first started solo performing on open mics online during COVID\, while writing songs at a rapid clip. She switched to ukulele from guitar\, which may have been a mistake\, but it’s too late now! The four strings of a ukulele lend themselves to the strange chord progressions that Marylyn comes up with. \nMarylyn performs at open mics in town and occasionally at farmers’ markets or during studio tour nights at the “alternative” arts center. In 2022 she released an all-originals CD called Can’t Feel a Thing\, and is presently working on another one. She’s also written 20 plot-related songs for a musical called Muddleville\, based on a short novel she “accidentally” wrote last year. How that project will be shared remains to be seen. \nContact: giraffe@hiwaay.net \n\n \n\nConnect via Zoom:\nTopic: HVFG 4th Saturday Open Mic via Zoom \n  \nFor the Zoom link\, please signup for our email newsletters\, or contact Ethan Campbell at ethan.1247@gmail.com. \n\n  \nOPEN MIC\nMusic starts at 7:00\, but if you arrive at 6:30 you can spend some time catching up with friends\, helping each other sound check\, and just generally enjoying the mellow Folk Guild vibe. \nEthan Campbell will be the Zoom maestro\, so if you’re a musician and you’re planning to perform\, let Ethan know as soon as you come in from the Waiting Room.  He’ll get you into the next available slot.  Everybody gets two songs or eight (8) minutes\, whichever comes first.

SUMMARY:Open Mic via Zoom: Dave Feroe
DESCRIPTION:Dave Feroe was born and raised in Poughkeepsie\, NY\, and attended Arlington High School and Dutchess Community College. Dave began playing guitar at the tender age of five. He was in the local Rhinebeck band Destiny in the early 90’s\, and performed at the Chance in Poughkeepsie three different times with the Dave Feroe Project. \nDave’s soulful tenor voice is beautifully complemented by his unhurried touch on guitar\, which brings out the magic of the instrument to create a truly unique sound. \nDave is active in the Veterans community\, and has lent his musical talents to many Veterans events over the years. Dave’s time in Viet Nam and his love of family both inform much of his music\, creating a depth and an authenticity that never fails to captivate listeners. \n\n \n\nConnect via Zoom:\nTopic: HVFG 4th Saturday Open Mic via Zoom \n  \nFor the Zoom link\, please signup for our email newsletters\, or contact Ethan Campbell at ethan.1247@gmail.com. \n\n  \nOPEN MIC\nMusic starts at 7:00\, but if you arrive at 6:45 you can spend some time catching up with friends\, helping each other sound check\, and just generally enjoying the mellow Folk Guild vibe.

SUMMARY:Open Mic via Zoom: Lynda and Bruce
DESCRIPTION:Lynda Sales started singing as soon as she could talk. She took classical piano for most of her childhood. At thirteen\, she started playing the guitar and singing folk songs\, plus a bit of rock and roll. As an adult\, she sang in many area musicals. After being sidelined from the guitar due to a badly broken wrist\, she learned to play the ukulele\, which is now her instrument of choice. Lynda sang covers until four years ago\, when she started writing her own songs … finally.  \nBruce Engholm started out playing the guitar. When Lynda switched to the uke (at his urging) he made the change as well. His favorite instrument is the banjolele. He studied Bluegrass style fingerpicking last year. Lynda feels it adds a lot to her songs.  \nLynda & Bruce perform at local and Zoom open mics regularly\, play with a Gospel group\, various uke groups\, and at some local venues. After a lot of procrastination\, they are starting to record their music.  \nLynda & Bruce live in Kingston\, N.Y. with a dog\, two cats and a tortoise.
