DESCRIPTION:The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild is pleased to be featuring Jude Roberts on Saturday\, May 13\, 2023.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nEvocative and refreshingly melodic\, Jude’s music makes you feel you’ve rediscovered a song you never knew. Roberts is a New York-born and raised singer\, songwriter\, and recording artist. He became involved in the local New York music scene after graduating from Purchase College (1997) where he majored in Studio Composition. He went on to tour nationally and internationally. \nJude was selected to perform at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival 2018 as part of the Emerging Artist Showcase. In 2019\, he collaborated with the SageArts project to create a song based on the life of Holocaust survivor Tommy Wald. This song\, “Suzanne”\, was one of four songs featured in the PBS documentary\, “We Remember: Songs of Survivors” aired in early 2022. \nHaving traveled extensively throughout Europe for performance and pleasure\, he then launched a project leading music-focused retreats to Greece in October 2019. Although global lockdowns postponed the planned July 2020 retreat to Santorini\, this project will resume with renewed vigor in 2024. \nHe fingerpicks with the delicacy\, assurance and color of Nick Drake; sings with the bell-like clarity and gentle high end of a lost Finn brother; and writes Anglo- and pop-inflected folksongs with the offhand grace and deceptive sophistication of early James Taylor\, Richard Thompson or Sir Paul himself.\n – John Burdick\, Hudson Valley One\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen mic performances will be available to all. Cost of admission for this event is $7 ($6 for Folk Guild members and seniors).  Signup begins at 7 and open mic begins at 7:30.  The featured performance is expected to begin at approximately 8:30. \nThe Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern is located in the Town of New Windsor at 9 Vance Road\, Rock Tavern\, NY\, off Route 207\, 3.4 miles west of Rte 300; or take I-84 to Exit 5A\, Rte 747 south to Rte 207\, make a right and take the second left. \nWe have returned to in-person performances on the second Saturday of every month\, weather and pandemic permitting.  We also intend to stream the performances on Zoom for those unable to attend in person.  We will not be including remote performances\, but you can watch at the Zoom link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83220662299?pwd=eGxNV0dNK0xUekhxaHpzZTJ3VXlSUT09 \nFor more information call Maureen Black\, President of the Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild\, at 845-464-2526. \nFor those who still wish to perform from home\, the Hudson Valley Folk Guild has created a fourth virtual chapter that will meet every fourth Saturday.  That chapter will be hosted on Zoom by Ethan Campbell.  Check the web page for that link.
